Kantha Makers
Kantha Makers

This was the first in my “Kantha” series—born like a memory returning.

I painted the women I saw as a child in Bangladesh, stitching Nakshi Kantha side by side. Their hands moved with care, their voices like soft songs. To me, that was always art.

The colored blocks are my stitches—pixels of memory. Look closely: you’ll see jewelry, dots on foreheads, flickers of yellow lamps from blackout nights.

This painting holds it all: a pink dress, golden light, and the women who wove stories into fabric.

Threads of Joy
Threads of Joy

A portrait of Bangladeshi women creating art from village life. Lush trees, winding rivers, cows in the fields, chickens in the yard. Their Nakshi Kantha captured it all. Stitching beauty into fabric.

I remember watching them sit close together, side by side, laughing, telling stories, their hands always in motion.

This painting is a reflection of that memory, a celebration of their everyday art.
